Point Boro rising senior Ryan Malleck, a wide receiver/defensive back who projects as a tight end, has just added an offer from the University of Central Florida to ones from North Carolina State, Virginia, Maryland, Army and Navy, according to Panthers coach Calvin Thompson.

Malleck is part of a possibly historically talented Shore Conference Class of 2011 that may add another Division I-A member in Toms River South wide receiver/defensive back Bill Hill, the son of the Indians’ head coach of the same name. Hill was an All-Constitution Division selection as a junior, and his athletic frame has prompted Iowa to bring him out for a visit to see him in person, where it’s possible Hill could get a scholarship offer if the Hawkeyes like what they see. If Iowa does offer him, that should only open the floodgates to more because all it usually takes is one from a program in a BCS conference to prompt other schools to start offering.

Also, Manalapan quarterback Michael Bimonte has officially been offered by Bryant University in the Northeast Conference, according to Braves head coach Tom Gallahue. With the quarterbacks, the offers usually come slower for the non-Matt Barkleys of the world because teams have to be choosy with who they offer because they are not going to carry a ton of quarterbacks on their roster.

Finally, Howell junior wide receiver/defensive back Ryan Handy may get himself a scholarship with his atomic leg, as he is also one of the Shore Conference’s top kickers. He has been invited to camps at LSU, Penn State and Navy so that coaches can see him kick in person, according to his father. While kickers are often non-scholarship players, the elite ones do get scholarships, so we’ll see if Handy can parlay his kicking prowess into a spot at a BCS program. The offseason and these camps are huge for kickers. Colts Neck senior Eric Spillane got scholarship money to kick for Monmouth University based almost solely on his performance at Monmouth’s camp in the summer because he only kicked a handful of field goals for the Cougars during the fall.
