Barnegat senior wide receiver defensive back Chris Nueva is at home and in good condition, according to Bengals coach Rob Davis, after a scary moment in Saturday night’s 49-14 loss to No. 1 Matawan. Nueva took a booming hit on a kickoff in the first quarter and collapsed. He was down on the field and was attended to by the athletic trainer and a team doctor. They did not need to use a defibrillator to revive him, but he was down for a while before being taken by ambulance to Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank. He has since been released from the hospital and is resting at home, according to Davis.

“He needed medical assistance for precautionary reasons, but he’s with his family at home now and is fine,” Davis said. “The doctor and trainer did a great job.”

Shuler to Visit Northwestern/Quick Note

Before I get to an update on the recruiting of Long Branch star Miles Shuler, two quick things: This week’s Parisi Speed School Players of the Week will appear on the site on Tuesday and The End Zone column will be out on Wednesday. I work another job during the day and tonight my Jets’ fandom is taking me to the Meadowlands for Favre-O-Rama, so those two regular features will come out a day later. Also, I will have an alumni notebook this week as well.

Anyway, back to Shuler. The Long Branch senior quarterback/defensive back, who is considered a top-five recruit in the state by the major recruiting services, will take the first of his official visits to Northwestern on Oct. 23, which is the homecoming game against Michigan State, according to Shuler’s father. No other visits are planned yet, but the schools that are in the mix in addition to Northwestern are Rutgers, Stanford, Notre Dame and Florida, according to Mark Shuler.

On Wednesday in a ceremony at Long Branch, Shuler will be receiving his game jersey for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 8 in San Antonio.
