My Apologies/Point Boro Update

Sorry to say, but there will be no Stumpy Awards column this season because unfortunately there’s not enough hours in the day for all that extra stuff right now. Putting together a 50-page magazine for the winter preview along with our web previews after wrapping up the football all-conference stuff and working some other freelance jobs meant that they didn’t happen this year. By the time I would get them done, no one would care as we are already about a week into the winter season. My apologies, if anyone actually still cares about it.

Now, on to some news from Point Boro, where Sean Henry had the interim tag removed and got the head coaching job full time as he was approved by the Board of Education on Monday night, which was first reported by The Asbury Park Press. Congrats to Sean, who I think has earned this job and the right to try to pump this program back up to its customary spot among the Shore’s elite.

Also, according to our own Matt Manley, senior tight end/safety Ryan Malleck said after the Panthers’ loss in basketball to Monsignor Donovan on Tuesday night that he remains committed to Maryland but is still surveying other options (which sounds like a total contradiction) after Maryland head coach Ralph Friedgen was bought out of his contract on Monday, possibly paving the way for former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach to get the job according to multiple reports. Leach is a spread offense, four- and five-wide guy, so I don’t know where Malleck would fit in there unless he plays on defense. Malleck even mentioned potentially talking to Leach and his staff if Leach does get the job and then making a decision from there.
