Brick to Approve New Coach/Masi, Clark Make College Commitments

Brick is expected to name the successor to Patrick Dowling and the third coach in the program’s 54-year history at tonight’s Board of Education meeting. Sources close to the situation believe it will be former assistant Robert Dahl, a Brick grad who was on Warren Wolf’s staff before Wolf retired and Dowling, who has no Brick ties, was hired in controversial fashion in 2009.

Dowling was not recommended to be re-hired after the Green Dragons went 4-6 in the fall. Wolf, who was the school’s only coach for the first 51 years of the program and is second all time in New Jersey in wins, was openly upset about Dowling being his replacement because he didn’t have Brick ties. Wolf then ran for a school board seat in Brick and was elected in the spring after being unhappy with the administration, while also taking the head job at Lakewood. Dahl’s hiring would install a coach with Brick ties into the program.

Also, in college commitment news, Middletown South senior lineman Tom Masi, the Class A North Defensive Player of the Year and an All Shore Media first-team All-Shore Conference selection, will continue his career at The College of New Jersey.

Howell senior wide receiver Michael Clark, another first-team selection, will do a post-grad season at Milford Academy in New York. Former Howell stars Ryan McGuinness and Will Hayes each played one season at Milford before moving on to high-level Division I-AA programs New Hampshire and Delaware, respectively. Clark finished with a Shore Conference-leading 1,053 yards receiving on 47 catches (22.4 ypc) and what may be a Shore Conference-record 17 receiving touchdowns in his first and only season as a starter. Clark also had a school-record six receiving touchdowns in a win over Middletown North.
