Walt Krystopik, a veteran Jackson assistant who served as defensive coordinator under former coach Mike Smith, is up for approval as Jackson Memorial’s new head coach at tomorrow’s Jackson Board of Education meeting, according to the agenda posted on Jackson’s BOE website.

Krystopik was a clear name that emerged after Smith decided to step down following this past season to spend more time with his family. Despite the talent being diluted somewhat in recent years because of the opening of Jackson Liberty, the Jaguars still consistently have talent, so this is one of the better jobs out there. After being a perennial playoff team, the Jags have not made the postseason since 2007 and have not won a state playoff game since 2006.

If Krystopik’s approval by the Board goes through as expected, that leaves openings at Point Beach, Freehold and Monmouth Regional in the Shore Conference.
