Thurs. HS Football Show

Thursday High School Football Show Season Preview Tonight

Make sure to tune in to The Shore Sports Network (1310 and 1160 a.m.) from 7-9 p.m. tonight for a full preview of the 2011 Shore Conference football season. The award-winning radio team of Kevin Williams, Matt Harmon and Ed Sarluca will break down the Shore Conference, division by division, talking about the top players, teams, and more. Steve Falk of the Asbury Park Press will be on from 7-8 p.m. and then I will be on with them from 8-9 p.m. If you’re in the Toms River area, stop into Boston’s on Fischer Boulevard and Hooper Avenue, where the show will be broadcast live.

Clax Optimistic About Resolution to Transfer Situation/Season Preview Links

There is a chance that Neptune senior linebacker Jazzmar Clax may not play in Friday night’s season opener at Bishop Ahr because Freehold has yet to sign off on his transfer. Clax transferred to Neptune in late June, but his paperwork is not completed. Freehold is reportedly contesting it on the grounds that Clax transferred for athletic advantage, following head coach Mark Ciccotelli over from Freehold to Neptune. Clasx did not play in Neptune’s final scrimmage against Toms River North, and yesterday he stood and watched practice because he was unable to participate.

I spoke with Clax after practice yesterday, and he remains optimistic, saying he expects to play Friday night: “I’m just waiting on everything clarified. I should be able to play this weekend. You’ve got to deal with certain things that pop up. You can’t let it interfere with the way you work. You just live day by day like it never happened. You prepare yourself like you’re going to play.

“I feel there’s no doubt in my mind (I am going to play), but you never know what goes on behind closed doors. It’s frustrating, but what can you do when it’s not in your hands?”

There is a hearing before the NJSIAA on Sept. 14, which means that if an emergency meeting is not held tonight or tomorrow afternoon or there is no resolution with the paperwork, Clax would be ineligible to play against Bishop Ahr, which is coached by last year’s Neptune coach, Don Sofilkanich. Neptune beat Bishop Ahr 62-0 last year in the opener.
