Red Bank Catholic senior tight end Jack Tabb will be in the house in Iowa City on Saturday night when Penn State takes on the Hawkeyes as he is making an official visit to Iowa this weekend. The Caseys take on Long Branch at Count Basie Field on Friday night. I visited Iowa City once on one of the most epic college road trips of all time from Northwestern, taken with about 20 people in the back of an illegally rented U-Haul. Unfortunately those are about all the details I can publicly divulge, but it was something I’ll never forget. Pretty fun town, especially given the usual stereotype of Iowa as a boring Midwest place.
As for tonight, the St. Barnabas Health Care Thursday Football Show will be live from Boston’s in Toms River from 7-9 p.m., broadcasted live on the radio at 105.7 “The Hawk” f.m. and 1310 a.m. as well as streamed live on your computer at http://www.1057thehawkfm.com. Matt Harmon and Ed Sarluca will be running the show without maestro Kevin Williams, who is probably flying to Iowa to intervene in Tabb’s visit and convince him to come to Penn State.
Guests include Matawan head coach Joe Martucci at 7:15 p.m., myself at 7:26 p.m., Toms River North head coach Chip LaBarca Jr. and senior quarterback Demetri Davis live on location from 7:45-8 p.m., Monmouth University head coach Kevin Callahan at 8:05 p.m., Howell head coach Cory Davies and his son, prolific junior quarterback Ryan Davies, at 8:18, the Asbury Park Press’s Rob Ziegler at 8:45, and then Ed and Matt’s picks of the big games in Week 4 to close the show. Always worth checking out.
Howell, which has a big game against Middletown South at home on Friday night in Class A North, has endured yet another heart-wrenching loss. Mark Dambach, the father of senior starting linebacker Ryan Dambach and sophomore lacrosse player Alec Dambach, died at 47 years old on Tuesday. Our condolences from everyone here at ASM to the Dambach family, and from everything I’ve heard about Mark, he was a beloved Pop Warner coach in Howell who also had coached Little League.
This is the latest tragedy the Rebels football community has gone through, as 2010 graduate John Bukowiec died in a car accident in late July, and former quarterback Bobby Dierolf died of a heart attack at 27 years old earlier in July.
